Three hundred skill is thousands of individual crafts

A profession runs to 300 across four tiers, and every point comes from one craft or one gather. Higher tiers stop giving a point every time, so the count climbs into the thousands. For a crafting profession most of that time is not crafting at all, it is gathering the materials for each attempt and walking to the trainer who unlocks the next tier. That is why a gathering skill is cheaper here than a crafting one: the gathering costs time, and the crafting costs time and gold. Everything gathered on the way stays on your character.
