WARDOGS Season 2 progression: the XP curve is up to 55% faster

· 7 min read · AFKDOG Operations

Reaching level 20 in WARDOGS now takes less than half the playtime it did in Season 1, and every other milestone came down too. The developer named the problem directly: levels 10 to 20 were a slow grind and many players stalled before unlocking the gear that defines their role. The fix was a rewritten total-XP table plus a reshuffle of which unlocks sit on which track. Figures below are from the official Season 02 patch notes on Steam.

The full total-XP table

These are cumulative totals, not per-level costs:

  • Level 10: 35,000 to 25,000, 29% quicker
  • Level 15: 110,000 to 54,750, 50% quicker
  • Level 20: 250,000 to 111,500, 55% quicker
  • Level 25: 365,000 to 206,600, 43% quicker
  • Level 30: 500,000 to 318,200, 36% quicker
  • Level 35: 750,000 to 525,000, 30% quicker
  • Level 40: 975,000 to 712,500, 27% quicker
  • Level 45: 1,225,000 to 920,850, 25% quicker
  • Level 50: 1,500,000 to 1,150,000, 23% quicker

The shape of the curve changed, not just its height

The reductions are not uniform, and the pattern tells you where the developer thought the game was losing people. The deepest cut is at level 20, at 55%, with level 15 close behind at 50%. By level 50 the saving is 23%. In other words the early and middle game got dramatically cheaper while the long tail stayed broadly intact, so the climb still means something at the top without gating role identity behind it.

That matters because role tracks are where the defining gear lives. A player who stalled at level 14 in Season 1 was not missing cosmetics, they were missing the equipment that makes their role playable.

Unlocks moved between tracks

Season 2 did not only lower the numbers, it moved items. Each of the seven tracks, WARDOG, Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot and Driver, received additional unlocks, and several existing unlocks were moved into different tracks. The practical consequence is that the track you levelled in Season 1 may no longer be the one holding the item you wanted, and the item you were chasing may now sit on a track you have already levelled.

Before planning a grind, open each track and check where your target actually sits now. The patch notes list the moves per track in full, and they are worth reading once rather than assuming Season 1 knowledge carries over.

What a returning player should do first

  1. Check your current level against the new table. If you were between 10 and 25, you are closer to the next milestone than you were when you stopped, without playing a match.
  2. Find where your role's defining unlocks moved. Some are now earlier, some are on another track entirely.
  3. Re-test the archetype you abandoned. The calibre damage cut changed which weapons lead their class, so a gun you dismissed may now be competitive.
  4. Plan earning around the new reward rules, because logistics and spotting were both rebalanced in the same patch.

If you would rather not re-grind it

A faster curve is still a curve, and the band that got cut hardest is still the band that takes the most hours in absolute terms. Our Wardogs leveling service runs any range by hand, played by a real person rather than a script, and the Wardogs starter bundles pair a level range with gear if you are starting from close to nothing. If you want to play alongside someone competent instead of handing the account over, renting a Wardogs booster is priced by the hour.

Whichever you pick, the honest note is the same one we make everywhere: account sharing carries risk, we do not pretend otherwise, and our explanation of whether Wardogs boosting is bannable sets out what that risk actually consists of.

Frequently asked

How much XP does level 50 need in WARDOGS Season 2?

Level 50 requires 1,150,000 total XP in Season 2, down from 1,500,000 in Season 1. That is a 23% reduction, the smallest proportional cut in the table, because the developer concentrated the reductions on the early and middle game.

Which levels got the biggest XP reduction?

Level 20 saw the largest cut at 55%, falling from 250,000 to 111,500 total XP, with level 15 close behind at 50%. The developer identified levels 10 to 20 as the band where players stalled before unlocking role-defining gear.

Do I keep my Season 1 progress?

The patch notes describe changes to the XP required and to which unlocks sit on which track, not a progression wipe. Because the thresholds came down, existing XP goes further than it did, so a character part-way through a level may find itself closer to the next milestone.

Did role track unlocks change in Season 2?

Yes. All seven tracks, WARDOG, Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot and Driver, gained additional unlocks, and several items were moved between tracks. Check where your role's key equipment sits now rather than relying on Season 1 knowledge.
