Can I play in the games?

Yes. Blitz takes a party, so self play is available: you are in the battleground with the booster rather than handing over the account. It takes longer to schedule because two people have to be free, and the boost method question on the order is where you choose.

Why is this dearer per point than Solo Shuffle?

An 8v8 game runs longer than an arena round, and seven other people on your side decide more of the result than two do. More games are needed for the same climb, so the rate per point is above both Solo Shuffle and arena.

Do I get the PvP gear from it too?

You keep everything the games award, including the conquest and honor earned on the way. If gear is the actual goal rather than the rating, the PvP gear page is cheaper for it, because conquest is a weekly cap rather than a ladder.

Won on objectives, not on duels

Eight a side on the battleground maps, and rating comes from the win rather than from damage done. That changes who is good at it: a player who tops the damage chart and ignores the flag loses, which is why this is bought separately from arena even though both read from the same ladder.
