Ten games, and winning them is not the requirement
Since Season 9 placements are ten matches and the counter moves whether you win or lose. What decides the rank you are handed is how you played, not how many you won, which is exactly why they are worth having played properly.
Fifty wins before competitive opens at all
A new account cannot queue competitive until it has fifty Quick Play wins, or owned Overwatch before June 2021. That is the wall most new accounts hit, and the unlock order is the only thing here that does not touch your rank: your placements stay unplayed, so where you land is still yours to decide.
