From Diamond upward every game opens with a ban phase, which changes what a climb actually is: the comfort pick you have been winning on is the first thing a lobby takes away. It is the single biggest reason a climb slows down at Diamond and it is priced in rather than explained away.

The role changes the work

A Vanguard climb and a Strategist climb are different jobs at the same rank. Tell us which one and we queue it; leave it on any role and we take whatever the lobby needs, which is faster and is why it is the default.
