Final Fantasy XIV Mounts FAQ

Because the drop rates do. A one-percent mount on a weekly lockout is a different product from one that drops every time, even though both are a single clear.
Customer ratingbased on 3,886 reviewsRead reviews

Most of these are a drop rate, not a skill check

Kirin, Firebird and the rest are not difficult for anybody who has cleared the content once. They are a low percentage on a weekly lockout, which means a year of attempts for one person and a few weeks for a team running it on rotation. The price is the attempts.

The Lunar Whale is a different job entirely

It is crafted rather than dropped, which makes it a materials order: a pile of gathered and crafted components rather than a farm. The price includes all of them, because quoting the craft without the materials would be quoting the easy half.
