VALORANT Placement Matches FAQ
Placement games decide where a new act starts you, and they are worth more than ordinary games because the rank they land on is the rank you then have to climb out of. Pick how many you want played: all five at the start of an act, or the two you have left after playing three yourself.
What placements actually move
Valorant weighs your previous act when it places you, so five wins does not mean a jump of several tiers. What good placements do is stop the opposite happening: a bad set drops you below where you ended, and you spend the first fortnight of the act climbing back to the rank you already had. Expect placement near your last act rank, usually within a division either way.
