Destiny 2 Exotics FAQ
Because it usually takes longer. The weapon is a quest; the catalyst is several hundred kills or a raid drop on top of it.

The catalyst is usually the longer job
An exotic weapon is a quest. Its catalyst is several hundred kills, or a raid drop, or both, on top of the weapon you already have. That is why the two are priced separately here and why most of the orders on this page are catalysts rather than weapons.
Exotic class items are a roll, not a drop
Getting one is easy. Getting one with the two perks you actually wanted is a farm with no pity timer, which is the single longest grind currently in the game and the reason that row costs what it does.
