Gold on every challenge mode dungeon awards a class-specific armour set that exists nowhere else in the game. It is not a drop, it is not on a vendor, and it was never added to anything afterwards, which is exactly why people still buy this years later. Bronze and silver pay out gold and a title but not the set, and the cards say so rather than implying otherwise.
Gear is scaled down to a fixed level inside a challenge mode, so none of this can be bought with item level: the medal comes from route knowledge, crowd control and not dying. That is why a group that runs them weekly finishes a gold inside the timer and a pickup group does not, and it is the whole service in one sentence.
